Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the administration of all non-destructive testing, including but not limited to RT, PT, MT & UT Methods. Responsible for generating statistics and maintaining all records associated with non-destructive testing. Responsible for participation in root cause analysis involving weld metal and base metal defects and discontinuities. Responsible for assisting in the development of new welding procedures and processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Must have experience with ISO 9001, Document and Records Control or Quality system auditing, NAVSEA Technical Publications training and procedure writing.
  • Experience with NDT Inspector certification and Welder Qualifications, NAVSEA or Military Standards, Process Control Procedures (PCP),
  • Responsible for developing and administering all non-destructive testing as required by the current programs being manufactured.
  • QA/QC and NDT level II development and implementation of training.
  • Conducts NDT technical performance reviews.
  • Oversees the implementation of NAVSEA 271/ASNT-TC-1A and the qualification and certification requirements for NDT personnel.
  • Evaluate all NDT compliance processes site specific to ensure the NDT facility is properly performing all NDT methods to all applicable customer, government, and industry specifications.
  • Be the final authority for the interpretation of NDT requirements and/or the acceptability of nondestructive test results.
  • Approve documentation substantiating equivalent training and equivalent experience.
  • Administration of personnel vision examinations.
  • Approval of NDT method procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining all statistics and reports generated as a result of non-destructive testing, and communicating the information to all required parties internally and externally.
  • Maintain the highest level of safety awareness with respects to the use of either gamma or x-ray radiation in the manufacturing environment in accordance with Marinette Marine Corporation standard operating procedure, SNT-TC-1A, State of Wisconsin regulations, OSHA regulations, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Participate in audits as required to maintain all NDT practices, equipment and licensing.
  • Arrange for and monitor non-destructive testing vendors required at MMC.
  • Maintain all non-destructive testing equipment.
  • Responsible for participation in root cause analysis involving weld metal and base metal defects and discontinuities.
  • Maintains a commitment to the company vision and the objectives of the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Does not directly supervise employees. Carries out oversight of shop inspections and works with Quality Control inspectors in acceptance of work. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and scheduling inspections.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.
